National Programs and Current Initiatives
2009 – 2010
The National Programs
serve as conduits through which chapters of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority
provide public service. Collegiate and Alumnae chapters individually
and collectively have responded to the challenge to implement public
service programs which transform lives and impact communities.
During this biennial period chapters will continue the
Financial
Fortitude Initiative and implement entrepreneurship, a
wealth-building component.
Educational
Development will be enhanced with three additional
initiatives: African American History, Parents Empowered Active Children
Education (PEACE), and Empowering Males to Build Opportunities for
Developing Independence (EMBODI). The
International
Awareness and Involvement thrust increases
accessibility of educational, health and outreach services for infants,
youth and mothers at various locations in Africa. The International Day
of Service is a day for all chapters to collaborate with each other and
community organizations to raise awareness about the need for clean
drinking water. The new initiative within this program is
Adopt-a-Child/Sponsor-a-Child. This will provide access to education,
health care and clean water in developing countries. The
Physical and Mental Health
thrust has a strong focus on mind, body and spirit. Two
new initiatives will assist chapters to address physical and mental
health issues facing African Americans: Catching, Coping and Conquering
and My Cry in the Dark. Both initiatives provide information and
empowerment for persons seeking proactive solutions to these health
issues.
We, in the Farwest Region stand united in our resolve to remain focused
on our goals, energetic in our collaboration, and active in the
implementation of exemplary programs!
